Cycle Surgery winter Series Round 5

As the day's drag out we are just one week away from the penultimate round of this year's Cycle Surgery winter series, the tracks are in fantastic shape and riding really fast and with the weather looking settled for the upcoming week all signs indicate it will be another great round. If you have not been on the club website please have a look and see where your points are at as the series draws to an end, with double points up for grabs in the last round now is the time to get serious. If points and placing's don't matter to you and you just wish to enjoy the ride then this round will not disappoint either. Please remember to jump online and pre-register for the event to save time on the day. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Southern Series Downhill round

This will be held in Bluff on the weekend of the 27th of September please check out the website for more information.

Club monthly meeting

This will be held at Sport Southland on Tuesday the 9th of September starting at 7.30 pm. All welcome please feel free to come along.

Mountain bike skills training

With the recent success at the commonwealth games in the mountain biking sector, the committee have decided the time is right to provide some training and development to our young up and coming riders. We have been very lucky to enlist the help of two local legends Ryan Cull and Marcus Roy to assist in this development programme. We have started the sessions with six junior riders and are keen to hear from anyone who may be interested in any future training we may be able to offer, there is a cost involved in this but we think the skills and experience that could come out of these sessions far out way this. If you are interested please be in touch in person or at president@southlandmtb.co.nz for further details.

Sandy Point Forestry activity

The trees are down and the machines are gone from this round of logging at Sandy Point, we will endeavour to get all the tape rolled up and reinstate the tracks we can as soon as possible. Thank you all for your understanding as the logging happened we had no issues with our riders crossing into the marked off areas and this is much appreciated as it ensured we could maintain the use of most the trails. The club will be endeavouring to get some new trails in the old Big Mac area as soon as we can, we will let you know when these are able to be ridden.

Downhill working bee on Bluff hill

Prior to the above Southern Series round we need to do some work to the downhill track. This date has been set for the 14th of September starting at 9 am. If you are able please come on down and lend a hand to have a quick tidy up of the trail and spread some gravel. We would ask for a good showing of helpers from the Downhill riders.

Bereavement

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Melanie Frazer who passed away on Monday the 25th of August. Our thoughts and condolences go to Robert and Jakob at this time.

As the pollen starts to fall, this marks the start of spring, if you have not been on your bike it's time to get back into it. With the days getting longer make the most of the night riding opportunities!!!!!
