Brief Race Details

Race date: 29-30 April, 2017

Price:  $200 per Team, $100 per Junior Team


Team Size:   

4 person teams, all team members compete in all stages, team must stay together.



1.     Male

2.     Female

3.     Mix (must have one of opposite sex)

4.     Junior (U18). 


1.     There are no mix, male or females teams in junior race. You may have any combination you like.

2.     A junior (U18) may race with a senior team but the team must take the senior status.


Course Details:

This race is an entry-level race, but a base level of fitness is required including the ability to ride a MTB. 


6+6 = One 6 hour (max) stage each day

Stage 1 - Saturday 3pm to 9pm

Stage 2 - Sunday 6am to 12pm


It is assumed the fastest teams will complete each stage in 4-5 hours with all teams able to complete it in 6 hours.  There will be 2 periods of dark racing, in the evening of stage 1 and early morning on stage 2.  The course details will be secret until race day but it will be contained within the Sandy Point and Oreti Beach areas.  You will be given the maps on race day with time to study them.  No advanced map reading skills are required.  The race will include MTB, orienteering, trekking, kayaking and a secret stage.

Please note there is no requirement for any prior kayaking experience and or specific training in a kayak.  This stage will be fun but play a limited role.  All kayaks and water sport equipment will be provided.


Transition Hub

All transitions will take place at a central transition hub based at the Rowing Clubs. It is encouraged for all teams to camp there overnight for the full adventure racing experience and who knows when the secret stage may occur.  There will be toilet facilities provided plus food vendors onsite.  This will be an excellent viewing spot for spectators.


Recommended and Compulsory Gear:

A list will be posted closer to the race but no purchasing of specialized gear is expected or required.
